About Andrew Stevenson
Andrew Stevenson was an English earthenware manufacturer based in Cobridge, Staffordshire. His factory was known for high-quality creamware, pearlware, and transfer-printed earthenware. Most of them were marked “A. Stevenson Warranted Staffordshire”. Though there are numerous items that did not have any marks. Stevenson’s pottery was known for its fine blue transfer prints, frequently inspired by historical and classical themes, and for export to both British and American markets.
Porcelain Chestnut Baskets
In the 18th and 19th centuries, chestnut baskets made of porcelain or fine china were elegant tableware pieces used for serving roasted or candied chestnuts, fruit, or other small delicacies — part of the formal dining and dessert service of the period.
Approximate dimensions.
Basket length – 26.5 cm or 10.3 inches. Width – 16.5 cm or 6.4 inches.
Under-dish length – 24.7 cm or 9.6 inches. Width – 18.6 cm or 7.3 inches.
