Manufacture: Royal Doulton
The first enterprise featuring Doulton name was Doulton & Watts c. 1820 to 1854. They started their production with utilitarian wares. In 1862 Henry Doulton began to experimenting with decorative pottery, which after some time become more and more successful.
Lambert School of Arts played a significant role in Doulton’s success. Its students were employed to decorate the ware. New designs impressed both art critics, the public, and eventually Queen Victoria. This partnership lasted for almost a century until 1956 when new city regulations took effect. They had to stop production in Lambeth, the borough of London.
1901 marks an important date in its history. This was when the Royal Doulton trademark was born. Royal Warrant permitted to add “Royal” to the family name of Doulton.
Nowadays Royal Doulton continues producing high-end porcelain made across multiple locations, including England and Indonesia.
